Poker's Top Five Largest Egos
1. Phil Hellmuth. Who else could lead the list of inflated ego than the self proclaimed “Poker Brat” himself? While his accomplishments on the game are staggering, Hellmuth still manages to come across as pompous and arrogant with his claims as the “best tournament player ever,” amongst others. It's a good thing his home site UB has some of the best poker bonuses, because it's a sure thing no one's going there on the strength of Phil's charm. You see a lot of the ego in reading his blogs online; when he analyzes hands, no matter how boneheaded the play, he finds a way to defend himself when he ships it in bad, and always has a volley of barbs waiting for anyone unfortunate enough to suckout on him or even outplay him.
2. Tony G. A man that will threaten to tear out your heart and destroy you will, in most professions, be a man without a job in a hurry. For Tony G, it’s just a day in the office of crushing dreams and professing to the world just how much of a genius he is at poker. You can catch Tony online at Party Poker - check out this Party Poker Bonus Code before you sign up. His confidence level at the table can lead to some pretty amazing displays, including fist slams, dancing, gesturing at self, and so on. He’s even assumed dominance over an entire country and their playing ability after knocking Ralph Perry of Russia out of a tournament. Boasting against the former Soviet Union? That takes balls.
3. Kenny Tran. “Sick Call” Kenny earned that moniker the old fashioned way; by professing to everyone within earshot how much of a sick call the call he just made was. Kenny has played in the biggest cash games in the world, and ran deep in many televised tournaments, and as a testament to his good play, he’s sure to alert us to his own awesomeness via huge celebrations when he calls with ace high and wins a pot. Just don’t win a pot off him, however, or he’ll replace “sick call” with “f***ing sick” in a heartbeat.
4. Mike Matusow. The only reason “The Mouth” no longer ranks as high on the ego scale is because of the random acts of humility he’s shown in recent years. Mike still has the capability of spouting off his prowess at omaha or his abilities compared to everyone at the table he’s sitting in, but catch him after a loss, and he’s less likely to talk about the awful play his opponent knocked him out with, but instead, how terrible he played in the event and how much he sucks at poker. If he keeps being humble Mike, he may no longer have an ego to brag about, much to the chagrin of his own personal bobblehead.
5. Scotty Nguyen. Scotty is one of those players that loves to talk about himself in the third person. Scotty will be the first to tell you, he’s the “Prince” of poker, and if the gaudy hair, medallions, and wife don’t convince you he’s super confident in himself, just remember, baby, he’s a michelob guzzling, 83 offsuit playing menace, and if he bluffs you with a camera nearby, he may take the time to point out to a national audience how great he is and how bad you are by showing the world the big bluff. Just ask poor Humberto Brenes, who happens to be a pretty big ego himself...
