Blackjack: The Hi-Lo Count
One of the most popular and beginner friendly methods of card counting is the hi/lo count style of card counting. This style adds a card from the -1 count of the Knockout system and puts it in the 0 count, making three more clearly defined levels of value for cards in blackjack, making it easier to remember which card is worth which amount, which can help prevent you from accidentally messing up the count. It's an easy count that you can use in casinos or when gambling online. The values of cards in the hi/lo method are as follows:
Two through Six= +1
Seven through Nine= 0
Ten through Ace=-1
Because sevens are now a zero value card, the count you need to begin pressing your bets in the hi/lo version of counting is much lower than in the knockout style; at a count of +12, you should be looking to press your bets up, while at -12, you should be holding back or leaving the table altogether.
Although this method is not quite as advanced as some the more thought out counting methods, like the Hi/Opt variants, it still allows you to grind away at the edge the casino has over you playing even perfect blackjack. There’s a side benefit to counting, even with the less advanced methods, that can also increase your profits; once you get used to counting and can focus on it and playing, you’ll notice your attentiveness to your game increases, meaning your focus level and overall profitability will increase regardless of whether the count is good or bad; instead of watching other players or zoning out on some tv when you're playing at online gambling sites, you’re always locked in on keeping the count true, which makes playing good strategy actually easier in the long run. it’s complicated at first, but profitable in the end.
